The first definitive book on tea, ‘THE CH’A CHING’ was written by Lu Yu in 800 A.D.
- In the year 1680, the concept of adding milk to tea was developed in Europe.
- Tea remained popular in France for only 50 years, being replaced by a stronger preference for wine, chocolate, and exotic coffees.
- Until the sixth century, tea was consumed primarily as a remedy for headaches, kidney trouble, poor digestion, and ulcers, and to guard against “the noxious gases of the body and lethargy.
- The first samples of tea reached England between 1652 and 1654.
- In 1904, at the St. Louis World’s Fair in the United States, a tea plantation owner served the first “ICED TEA”. It was the hit of the fair.
- Four years later, Thomas Sullivan of New York, developed the concept of “Bagged Tea” to avoid the mess of tea leaves in kitchens.
- Experienced tea pickers collect up to 70 pounds of tea a day by hand.
- One tea bush will produce tea for at least 50 years.
- A single pound of tea will yield about 180 cups of brewed tea.
- Every 100 kg of fresh leaves makes 13 kg of black tea.
